Once again, the staff of the Saarbrücken IT enterprise showed just how athletic and team-minded they are. In this charity event, together with just under 200 other participants, seven eurodata employees tackled a total of 2,000 metres of climb. This year too, the SaarVertikal tour took them right across Saarland on a demanding mountain-bike course. Traditionally, the start was at the gates of the Celtic Hill Fort in Nonnweiler, and although at first the weather forecast didn’t look particularly optimistic, conditions turned out to be ideal on the day itself.
First, the route took the cyclists to the Dollberg, Saarland’s highest elevation, and then on via the Petersberg to the Schaumberg. There, with a third of the route behind them, and with some impressive views, they were given the opportunity to enjoy a well-earned lunch break. After that, the ride continued on single trails, forest tracks and meadow paths rich in variety through the centre of Saarland. This year the focal point of the tour was the refreshment station on Conny Hill. The route then made a wide detour round the Hoxberg before going on to the Saar Polygon. That distinctive landmark, on the spoil tip at Ensdorf, was the last major challenge.
Over the final kilometres, the participants pressed on through the Warndt, along the French border, to the finish in the wildlife park at Karlsbrunn, where they successfully completed this demanding tour.
Special thanks are due to the organisation team from BIKE AID, who have been organising this charity event with great enthusiasm for several years. The money raised this year goes to the Regenbogen project.
