As part of the Erasmus+ programme, pupils of the vocational training school Friedrich-List-Schule (KBBZ Saarbrücken), which is also attended by eurodata’s commercial trainees, spent three weeks in Dublin. During their stay, they first attended ADC College for a week and then did two-week stints of practical training in various enterprises. That gave them insights into the world of work in Ireland and enabled them to gain some international occupational experience. The pupils stayed in host families, where they had the chance to familiarise themselves with Irish everyday life, try out some traditional food and improve their knowledge of English.
English was spoken throughout their stay. During the week at the school, the programme included writing job applications and CVs in English, preparing for job interviews, and learning about the history of Ireland. The pupils were also interviewed spontaneously by the German TV channel SR-Fernsehen and gave account of their experiences and their impressions of the stay.
Their practical training took place in different enterprises. Kristina worked in the sales department of the sports and fitness equipment company McSport. Her tasks included generating orders, working with Excel tables for data analysis, and preparing orders in the warehouse. Helena did her practical training with the law firm Ad’reme Solicitors. There, she processed fee applications, looked after clients’ files and also worked with Excel.
In their free time, the two eurodata trainees availed themselves of the opportunity to explore Dublin and the surrounding areas. Among other places, they went to the National Museum and Phoenix Park, where they were able to watch deer close up. Another excursion took them down to the coast at Howth, where they admired Ireland’s Eye and the coastal landscape and sampled traditional fish and chips. Both of them summed up their stay as a positive experience throughout and are grateful for the experience they had the chance to gain abroad.
