Since the software manufacturer eurodata reorganised its apprenticeship programme two years ago, interest among school pupils has been very keen indeed. In 2024, for example, not only were all the vacant apprenticeship places allocated; extra ones were created for suitable applicants as well! Now, the final round of interviews is due for the start of the new apprenticeship term in August 2025.
Sabrina Enderlein, a member of the human relations team at eurodata, and responsible for the new apprenticeship programme, outlines the corporate philosophy: “Our employees, and thus also the young people who follow in their footsteps, are the most important asset we have. We set great store by team spirit here, and that’s why, from the very beginning, we feel it is of great value to find new team members who fit in with the company and vice versa.”
For that reason, when it comes to selecting apprentices, apart from the interests they have and their technical skills, their integration in the eurodata team has an important role to play. “We want apprentices to make the decision to come to us consciously. That increases the chance that they will complete their training successfully and perhaps even remain with us in the long term”, says Sabrina.
More than just apprenticeship: CandiDate, buddy programme and attractive benefits
With that in mind, Sabrina and the trainer team have created an application process which has several stages but is still individual in spite of that. Potential candidates are invited to a CandiDate, an icebreaker event lasting several hours, at which both the potential apprentices and the enterprise itself present themselves.
As well as the HR department, the trainers from the various different divisions take part, aiming to show what it is that makes apprenticeship at eurodata so special.
Apart from extremely flexible working hours, for example, apart from the SpenditCard, a bonus for particularly good results from vocational training school and an above-average apprenticeship allowance, the IT enterprise also provides 32 days’ holiday, takes care of the parking fees during the time spent at vocational training school … and offers other perks as well.
At the CandiDate, our current apprentices say what they like about us and – if applicable – what they don’t. This direct exchange of opinions is designed to enable potential apprentices to get a true picture of the company, while we ourselves form an impression of them which is as broadly based as possible”, Sabrina explains. In addition to that, there are small-scale, informal group games that show and strengthen team spirit. At the end, there is a so-called SpeedTalk, in which each candidate gets to talk with the various different representatives of the company in brief, 5-minute interviews.
If an applicant makes a convincing impression at the CandiDate, he or she will receive an invitation to a classical job interview with the respective apprenticeship agent and a representative of the HR department, the aim of which is to find out how well the enterprise and the applicant fit together. “Up to now, with this individual application process and our attractive apprenticeship concept, we have always found the right colleagues – and that can also include people who have terminated their studies prematurely or are looking to start a new career. And we’re eager to meet the next apprentices who will be enhancing the eurodata team as from August. Their first-year predecessors are waiting in the wings to welcome them as buddies. They’re already looking forward now to getting to know them at our informal apprentice event before the term begins, and helping to get them off to a good start”, says Sabrina, summing up.
