Together with other girls from Saarbrücken vocational school Friedrich-List-Schule, the eurodata apprentices Hannah, Helena and Leonie have received an award for their AI project. In the category ‘media’ they were awarded the Axel Buchholz Prize, endowed with prize money of €1,000, for their video and their podcast on Artificial Intelligence. Explaining their decision, the jury said: “The music video ‘Bildungsbanger’ wins the audience over with its creativity and its many-faceted depiction of the opportunities and challenges presented by this technology. The podcast “Office Talk Part 2 – Den Fake News auf der Spur’ makes a very good impression with its dedicated research and an entertaining dialogue about fake news, AI and social media.” According to the winners, the prize money will go towards media equipment at the vocational school (microphones and cutting programmes).
Since 2014, Saarland Broadcasting (Saarländischer Rundfunk or SR for short) has awarded this prize – named after its former editor-in-chief – to up-and-coming journalists. The aim is to encourage young journalists of school age in Saarland and empower young people in terms of their media competence. The eurodata apprentices contended for the Axel Buchholz Prize in the context of their activities at vocational training school and on the initiative of their teacher. It took them from September to January to plan and implement the project, and they received the award in May.
As for the AI enlightenment song, created by Hannah, Helena, Leonie and their schoolmates, the award has not been the only thing! It was also broadcast repeatedly by SR for purposes of enlightenment – a success right down the line, for which eurodata has expressed its sincere congratulations to its apprentices.
