In the initiative, which was launched in 2010 by AppSphere AG, a broad range of solution providers from the fields of Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) have joined to increase legal certainty when using cloud computing solutions.
The rapidly growing market for cloud services severely complicates the selection of technologically secure and legally unobjectionable on-demand software solutions. According to recent surveys, German businesses choose their preferred service provider largely on the basis of location, place of jurisdiction and the availability of a local contact person as well as the availability of contracts in German language and in accordance with German law. We strongly believe that these findings would hold true for businesses in most countries.
To be accepted into the solution catalogue of Cloud Services Made in Germany, a provider has to fulfil the following criteria set:
- The cloud service operator’s company was founded in Germany and has its corporate headquarters in Germany.
- The operator agrees service level agreements (SLA) with its cloud clients, which must be governed by German law.
- The place of jurisdiction for all contractual and judicial matters is Germany.
- The operator provides a locally based, German-speaking service and support.
